Loans without documents in Sri Lanka

A "no document" loan still needs your National Identity Card. What it skips is the salary slips and guarantors a bank asks for. Here is what each lender really requires.

What "no documents" really means

Online lenders do not ask for the paperwork a bank does: no salary slips, no guarantor, no branch visit. You still have to prove who you are and give them somewhere to send the money.

LenderWhat the lender asks forAge
CashX.lkNational Identity Card and a mobile phone18–60
OnCredit.lkNIC or driving licence, an active bank account and a regular income. No collateral or guarantor18 and over
Monigo.lkNo guarantor or income documents; a stable income is expected20–60
LoanPlus.lkA steady source of income19–60

These are the requirements each lender states on its own website.

What you still need

  • A valid National Identity Card. OnCredit.lk also accepts a driving licence.
  • A bank account in your own name, for the money to be paid into.
  • An active mobile number.
  • A clear selfie photo, which most lenders ask for during the application.

Why it costs more

A lender that asks for no documents and no guarantor is taking more risk, and prices the loan to match. That is why these loans cost many times more than a bank loan.

LenderLender’s own exampleCostPer year
Monigo.lkRs. 80,000 for 91 daysRs. 38,000190% APR (published)
CashX.lkRs. 10,000 for 10 daysRs. 2,200About 803% (our calculation)
LoanPlus.lkRs. 10,000 for 10 daysRs. 2,300About 840% (our calculation)

If you can provide salary slips and wait a few days, a bank personal loan costs around 15–25% a year.

Before you send anyone your NIC

Your NIC number and a selfie are enough for someone to misuse your identity. Make these checks first:

  1. Check who the lender is. A genuine lender publishes its company name, registration number and address.
  2. Never pay a fee up front. Be wary of anyone who asks for a "processing fee" before the loan is paid out.
  3. Read the total cost. Check the total you will repay and the late-payment charges before you accept.
  4. Protect your phone data. Avoid loan apps that ask for access to your contacts or photos.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a loan with only my NIC?

Close to it. CashX.lk asks for a National Identity Card and a mobile phone. All lenders also need a bank account to pay the money into, and most expect a regular income.

Can I get a loan without a guarantor?

Yes. OnCredit.lk states that no collateral or guarantor is required, and Monigo.lk asks for neither a guarantor nor income documents.

Can I get a loan without a job?

OnCredit.lk, LoanPlus.lk and Monigo.lk ask for a regular or steady income. CashX.lk’s site says it can help applicants with a low credit score or no job, but approval is still the lender’s decision.

Can I get a loan without a bank account?

No. Every lender listed here pays the loan into a bank account, and OnCredit.lk lists an active bank account as a requirement.
