Our review methodology

Where our rates come from, how we rank lenders, and how we make money. Nothing hidden.

Where the rates come from

Every rate is read from the disclosure page on the lender's own website. We do not copy figures from other comparison sites, news articles or lender marketing.

This matters because several major Sri Lankan comparison sites publish incorrect figures. Monigo's official disclosure states a maximum APR of 190%, while one site publishes "24% to 35% per annum".

Every figure carries a date

We always show when a rate was checked. Where a figure is unconfirmed we mark it verification pending rather than publishing a guess.

Ranking

Our lists are ordered by annual percentage rate, not by commercial fee. A lender cannot pay us for a higher position.

How we make money

We have commercial agreements with some lenders and may receive a fee when you visit their site from ours. We do not have agreements with every lender we list.

An important point about regulation

The online lenders listed on this site are not licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. CBSL licenses licensed commercial banks, licensed specialised banks and licensed finance companies — institutions that accept deposits from the public.

Under the current framework, an entity that lends without accepting deposits is not required to hold a CBSL licence. That has three consequences:

  • The interest rate ceilings that apply to banks and licensed finance companies do not apply here — which is how an APR of 190% can be charged lawfully
  • The consumer complaints route available through CBSL does not apply in the same way
  • A lender may be a registered Sri Lankan company, but company registration and a CBSL licence are not the same thing

We do not hide this. You are entitled to know it before you borrow.

What we don't do

  • We do not lend or process applications
  • We do not sell your personal data to lenders
  • We do not reproduce lender marketing copy on our pages
  • We do not publish fabricated customer reviews

If you find an error

If you spot an incorrect figure, contact us. We check it against the lender's official disclosure, correct it if needed, and update the page's verification date.
