CRIB report

The Credit Information Bureau holds your borrowing history. Checking it before you apply is a good habit.

What CRIB is

The Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka collects credit data reported by every bank and financial institution in the country. When you apply for a loan, the lender checks this record.

What the report shows

  • Every loan and credit card you hold
  • Payment history — whether you paid on time
  • Late payments and defaults
  • Loans where you stood as guarantor

How to obtain it

  1. Go to the CRIB official website or visit the office
  2. Complete the application with your NIC
  3. Pay the applicable fee
  4. Collect the report and check every entry

Check CRIB's own site for current fees and procedure — these change from time to time.

If there is an error

If an entry is wrong, contact the bank or institution that reported it. Corrections are made by the reporting institution, not by CRIB.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a bad record last?

Credit data is retained for a set period. Check CRIB's official site for the current retention rules.

Can I borrow with a poor record?

Some online lenders are more flexible than banks, but the rate is likely to be higher.

Does being a guarantor affect my record?

Yes. If a loan you guaranteed defaults, it affects your record.
