Install an app only through the link on the lender’s own website, so you get the genuine one.

App or website: is there a difference?

The lender is the same company either way, so the loan is the same product. Whichever you use, check the total repayable shown before you confirm. You can apply through our Apply page without installing anything.

How to tell a genuine loan app from a dangerous one

Before you install a loan app or give it any details:

  1. Check who the lender is. A genuine lender publishes its company name, registration number and address.
  2. Never pay a fee up front. Be wary of anyone who asks for a "processing fee" before the loan is paid out.
  3. Read the total cost. Check the total you will repay and the late-payment charges before you accept.
  4. Protect your phone data. Avoid loan apps that ask for access to your contacts or photos.

Also check that the developer name in the app store matches the company named on the lender’s website.

Frequently asked questions

Which loan apps in Sri Lanka are from registered companies?

Monigo.lk, CashX.lk, LoanPlus.lk and OnCredit.lk are each operated by a company registered in Sri Lanka, with the registration numbers listed above. Company registration is not the same as a Central Bank of Sri Lanka licence.

Are online loan apps licensed by the Central Bank?

The online lenders listed here are not licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. A lender that does not accept deposits is not required to hold a CBSL licence, so the interest rate ceilings that apply to banks do not apply to these loans.

Should a loan app ask for my contacts or photos?

Be wary of any loan app that asks for access to your contacts or photos. A lender needs to confirm your identity and your bank account, not read your phone.

Do I need an app to get an online loan?

No. Every lender listed here also takes applications on its website.
